The Saving Our Flying Heritage (SOFH) organization is sponsoring a fly-in and static display at the Huntsville Executive Airport (KMDQ) in Meridianville on 9 September, 2017. In addition to static displays of a UH-1 Gunship, and L-19, there will be several military aircraft on display as well as amateur built aircraft and commercial general aviation aircraft. The event will be open to the public at no charge and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BG Robert Stewart (Ret.), the first U.S. Army Astronaut, will be on site and signing autographs. Food vendors will be available on the airport grounds. Free airplane rides for 8-17 young people as a part of the Young Eagles Program being run by the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 190. The Friends of Army Aviation-Ozark (FAA-O), will have its UH-1 Legacy Huey Helicopter Membership Drive Campaign rides (weather permitting) for $65. Other organizations participating are the North Alabama Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association (NAVHPA), Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans Memorial Museum, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Madison County Executive Airport Authority, and Executive Flight Center, Civil Air Patrol, Huntsville High JROTC (Air Force), along with other local organizations and companies. For the non-flying accompanying spouse there will be crafts booths while your spouse is with the airplanes.
